Last year, the Bangkok Post said that the best New Year's Eve Bash in Thailand, took place at the Dusit Resort Hotel, Hua Hin, so I duly booked myself in for the 2006/7 event. The Bangkok Post was right - it was fabulous.
The King and Thai was the name of the show, conceived and produced by Victor Sukseree, the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Thailand played light classics on the lawn bordering the lake, TV and movie stars sang solos, duos, and even barber shop quartet style was provided b yThe Resonance Chorus. They performed modern dance and classical ballet, and the talented hotel staff were showcased in their own set pieces. There was even a water-ballet, with boards laid under the waters of the lake so that it appeared the dancers were gliding on water. After the show we danced into the wee small hours to the Lai Tai Jazz Band.
The whole was choreographed by Khun Suteesak Pakdee teva (known familiarly as Khun Joe),ex-Bangkok Ballet Theatre.
I managed to interview some of the interesting media folk taking part. Set designer Ritirong Jiwakanon recently won the Critics Award in Canada for his work on Turondot. He has worked on Broadway, Japan and in Singapore.Khun Ta Viladda is a woman of many accomplishments whose next stage performance is inBrecht’s “The Good Woman of Szechuan” Dennis Ng had me transfixed in awe as I watched his dancing feet cha-cha, salsa and foxtrot (he is a professional dance teacher from Singapore). Sutee Tripin, is the proprietor of theSala Thai Restaurant, Eindhoven, Netherlands and we met a day later at a fruit carving class where he was updating his skills.
These interviews will be coming up in the next few weeks, click on the names to access.
