Dance, music, theatre, painting, photography and prints, Hindu, Chinese and Malay Festivals, all combine to make autumn in Singapore an exciting place for art-lovers.
Autumn and winter are good times to visit Singapore and this year the city-state has plans to keep everyone entertained with art, music, theatre and street entertainment.
Hindus mark the festival of Diwali (also known as Deepavali) on November 8th, but in Singapore the celebrations start early – in October.
The most significant Hindu festival of the year, and a National holiday in Singapore, Diwali commemorates the victory of Lord Rama over evil. The city will be very quite over this period.
Visitors should head for Little India, the Indian enclave in the business district which will be full of stalls selling everything for the festival, all decked out with coloured lights. It’s at its best after dark, as truth be told, it can look garish during daylight hours.
Stall food will include the favourite curry on a banana leaf.

The Asian Civilisation Museum is presenting a carefully researched exhibition, featuring Nalanda, a historic centre in Eastern India dedicated to the study of Buddhism. The exhibition features artefacts loaned by other museums, as well as fascinating records from monks who visited the region hundreds of years ago.

Australia Photographer, Palani Mohan has been photographing elephants for many years now and has produced some remarkable images. This exhibition concentrates on elephants from some ten countries looking at their mahouts, the dangers the elephants face, and the tasks they perform. Most of the images are for sale.

2007 is the Anniversary of the death of Andy Warhol and this exhibition is to mark the occasion. A collection of over 100 orginal Andy Warhol prints will be exhibited by Cannonball Art Fund and LuminaLive. Free entry.

This festival of music, theatre and dance will run in tandem with Diwali and is a ten day celebration of Malay culture and art, a fusion of the many cultures that make up the Malay states. It will take place at the Concert Hall Recital Studios, on the Waterfront and entry is S$25.
