Visa – South East AsiaLegal Requirements When Entering a Country in Asia
Guidelines and costs for travellers applying for and acquiring a visa to Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos.
A current visa is required to be obtained by all tourists entering Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. Visas to Cambodia and Laos can be obtained once in the country at various airports and land border crossings, the exception is Vietnam; a visa is required to be obtained at least one month prior to arrival in Vietnam. Laos Visa RequirementsTourist Visas for Laos are needed for all except Japanese or ASEAN visitors – ASEAN Countries are: Brunei Darussalem, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Laos. Tourists can obtain a Visa on arrival in Laos at fourteen land border crossings and river ports to the Lao PDR from Thailand, China and Vietnam including:- Friendship Bridge and Nongkhai, Houayxay and Xiengkhong, Thakhek and Nakhonphanom, Savannakhet and Mukdahan, Vangtao and Xongmek, Namphao and Cautreo, Densavanh and Laobao, Naphao and Chalo, Boten and Bohane, Namkane and Namekane, Namsoue and Nameo, Paksane and Beungkane. The 30 day visa on arrival in the Lao PDR is available at all ports of entry as listed above including the three international airports, Vientiane, Luang Prabang and Pakse. One photo is required for proof of identity, also required is a valid passport with a least six months remaining of validity. Visa cost varies for different countries China US$20 Canada US$42 Sweden US$31 USA, Europe and United Kingdom US$35 India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka US$40 Australia and remaining countries U$30 Cambodia Visa RequirementsPassport holders from Laos, Malaysia, The Philippines and Singapore are permitted to enter Cambodia without acquiring a visa. A 30 day visa is automatically given for these nationals upon entry to Cambodia when a valid passport is produced. Filipino nationals are permitted to stay for a period of 21 days without a visa. The visa is valid for one visit only, and the maximum length of stay is one month, starting from the date of the arrival within the three-month periodof issuance. If the holder of the visa leaves Cambodia and wishes to return within the one-month period from the date of issue of the original visa a new application must be made and approved before re-entry.
The Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation launched in mid 2006 an e-Visa programme that enables travellers to apply for their Cambodian visas online. Allow 3 days for the processing of the visa. Vietnam Visa RequirementsTravellers are required to apply for a Tourist Visa for Vietnam four to six weeks prior to departure from their own country. Visas are not available upon entry to Vietnam.
Passports and relevant documentation will be returned to the traveller but include a return/postage paid envelope. A Visa fee must be paid in cash, money order or bank cheque payable to the Embassy of Vietnam. Visa fees are various and depend on the length of stay and visa types, it is advisable to contact the Vietnam Embassy servicing your country for information in this regard.
