Hotels Near Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, CambodiaSiem Reap Now Offers a Wide Selection of Accommodation
Angkor Wat grows more popular by the day and visitors to the complex should try to make a reservation before travelling to Cambodia, home of the famous Kymer ruins.
Whether back-packing and looking for budget accommodation or in search of ultra luxury, Siem Reap and the surrounding areas can offer a good selection of hotels with food of a high standard. More than a day is necessary to get the most from Angkor Wat, especially as visiting the many sites in the 200-acre complex can be very tiring. An overnight stay is worthwhile as that’s the time the locals come out to watch the sunset on Phnom Bakheng. Raffles, Sofitel and the Pansea Hotels are top of the range with the price fluctuating depending on the season, but the budget hotels usually keep the same price year round. Raffles Hotel, Grand Hotel d’Angkor, Siem ReapThe name Raffles doesn’t need much explanation as the hotel’s origins along Singapore’s waterfront are well known. Raffles Hotels are now found in the world's most fashionable/exclusive places (one has recently opened in Dubai). The Siem Reap Raffles, the former French Colonial Grand Hotel d’Angkor, was built in 1932 but fell into disuse during the war. It has now been restored to its former glory under the Raffles name and offers spacious gardens dotted with frangipani trees which perfume the air at dusk. A beautiful hotel, the restaurants and bars are all that is expected from a Raffles hotel. Singapore Sling’s always available at the bar. Sofitel Royal Angkor Hotel, Siem ReapThe Sofitel has strikingly lush grounds dotted with red and cream pavilions with the dining, pool and spa areas linked to the bedrooms and suites by cool verandas. A magnificent pool winds through the flower-filled gardens. The food is very French influenced, not merely because Cambodia was a French colony at one time, but because the hotel chain itself is French. An enormous cheese board is always on offer, plus a very extensive wine list at amazingly good prices. The Pansea Hotel, Siem ReapThe Pansea is a traditionally styled Kymer hotel built entirely of teak, a striking contrast to the grass which is an amazing green – proof of the amount of water used to keep the lawn in such good condition. Whereas other hotels position their swimming-pool to catch the sun and shade, the Pansea’s swimming-pool is lined with dark tiles to better catch the reflection of the moon! The rooms are large and luxurious with stylish amenities and perfect linen. The soft reddish-brown of the wooden balconies that overhang the pool area, lend the area an air of timeless charm. Mandalay Inn, Siem Reap.An ultra budget hotel near the old market which is clean but basic, most rooms having a view of a brick wall. However, this hotel comes in at under $20 per night. Soria Moria Boutique Hotel, Siem ReapRun by a Norwegian couple, this hotel is very popular at the higher end of the budget range, in the region of $50. The breakfasts are highly rated, exotic fruits playing a large part. Lotus Lodge, Siem Reap Located just outside Siem Reap in the midst of local housing and some farms, and away from busy street life, Lotus Lodge has a pool which is much appreciated after a heavy day spent sight-seeing, as well as a large playground, an internet corner, pool table and a small shop. The kitchen provides Kymer, Chinese and western cuisine. Lous Lodge is popular with all ages and very good value, prices range from $25 to $35. See also article on temples in and arounds Siem Reap
